"How many did they say you were having?"

Those words hit my ears and marked the moment I learned I was having twins. Nothing can fully prepare you for the weight of responsibility that comes with motherhood — until it’s suddenly yours. Alongside all the blessings come significant life changes, and in that moment, everything shifted. These two would be my third and fourth boys. I spent my thirties raising children, pouring my time, energy, and heart into their many stages of growth. With that came sacrifice — and often, the quiet neglect of my own basic needs.

In my twenties, I took health for granted. Beauty routines were effortless. I had time — to exercise, to sleep, to recover. Beauty was fun: a new lipstick, the perfect hairstyle, a golden tan, the latest fashion.

Thirties looked different. Trips to the gym became infrequent. Expensive cosmetics fell off the budget. I was tired, often squeezing in the time just to dry my hair after a shower. That’s when I began to understand what true self-care meant — and how hard it can be to prioritize when life is full and demanding.

Turning 40 sparked something new in me: a renewed sense of self and the realization that we cannot be the best anything — mother, partner, friend, professional — unless we first take care of ourselves.
